The Franchisor Intro Call

So, you just had franchisors presented to you…now what???

Expect the franchisors we discussed to reach out to you within 24-48 hours via email and/or phone to schedule an introductory conversation. It is very important to respond right away to schedule this call. The quick response shows the franchisor you are serious about learning more. Remember, franchisors are awarded so a great first impression puts the ball in your court.

First call:

Most of the Discovery Process is very professional but informal…much more conversational in nature.

Typically on the first call, the franchisors will ask a little bit about you (eg. Tell me about yourself?) and then the majority of the call will be the franchisor presenting their brand to you.

They are always vetting you throughout the process but since we have done their initial screening, the franchisor understands that FranCoach clients meet, and usually, exceed, their requirements for an owner. Thus, the franchisor will focus the initial conversations on educating candidates on their business model.

The franchisors will also begin sharing internal and proprietary information on their brand, including the Franchise Disclosure Document or FDD (more on this later). At the end of the call the franchisors will outline all the steps to their process and if they see the potential fit, they will schedule you for the next call.

Next steps:

Ideally after each round of calls with the franchisors, there will be a check in call with FranCoach. This debrief is designed to help you recap and assess what you learned on the first call – usually it is a lot. We will review the next steps.

It is possible after the first call that one of the franchisors is clearly not the right fit (it usually takes two calls for this, but it can happen sooner). We will discuss how to handle this outcome.

It is common for people to feel like they need to “decide” which is the best one after the first call. At this point there has not been nearly enough information exchanged to know this. Plus, the goal of the Discovery Process is for it to become so crystal clear which is the best franchise that you never feel like you are making a decision.
