From the Rails to Running His Own Business: J. Simon Brings Senior Helpers to Houston
For years, J. Simon’s calendar belonged to the railroad. As a train conductor working a five-days-on, two-days-off rotation, his schedule was set for him, week after week.
Now he’s setting his own. FranCoach is proud to announce that he has signed on as a new Senior Helpers franchise owner, opening one territory in Houston, Texas. He made the move with guidance from FranCoach franchise coach Stephanie Ruby.
Why J. Simon Traded the Rotation for Ownership
Railroad work is steady, but it isn’t flexible. After years on a five-days-on, two-days-off rotation, he was ready for a career where he decided how his weeks looked. That’s what led him to explore franchising.
He didn’t pick Senior Helpers on paper alone. Two things stood out:
- Longevity. Senior Helpers has been caring for families for more than two decades, and demand for in-home senior care keeps growing.
- Personal connection. J has been through the experience of caring for a loved one himself. He knows what families feel, and he wants to give them the support he would have wanted.
“I spent years living on someone else’s schedule. Now I get to build something that matters to families in my own city.”
— J. Simon
That mix of a proven system and real compassion is exactly what a great franchise match looks like.
About Senior Helpers
Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 in Baltimore by Tony Bonacuse and Peter Ross, who started the company after caring for their own family members. Today it has more than 410 locations and is headquartered in Towson, Maryland.
The brand provides in-home care that helps seniors stay safe and independent at home. Its specialty programs include Alzheimer’s and dementia care, Parkinson’s care, and veteran services.
For Houston families, J’s new territory means another local, owner-operated option for trusted senior care.
Coach Spotlight: Stephanie Ruby
J. Simon worked with FranCoach coach Stephanie Ruby from first conversation to signing his franchise agreement.
Stephanie brings more than a decade of franchise development experience. Since 2013 she has worked with brands including Club Z, Le Macaron, Oasis Senior Care, College Hunks, Mosquito Hunters and Bio-One (EIN Presswire). Her senior care background gave her useful insight for a match like this one.
She is also a franchise owner herself, with an IMAGE Studios location. That means she has sat on both sides of the table, as franchisor and franchisee. Her coaching style is listening first: understand the person, then find the brand that fits.
Off the clock, Stephanie lives in St. Petersburg, Florida with her husband and two sons, and you’ll often find her cheering at their games.
“J knew what he wanted his life to look like. He came in with a big heart for families and a real drive to build something of his own. Senior Helpers gives him the system to do both, and I can’t wait to see what he builds in Houston.”
— Stephanie Ruby, FranCoach
